friendly-society-iconWhen an unlimited number of persons collaborate for a common financial/social purpose, it is considered a Friendly Society.  More commonly known as an "Affordable Insurance"; it cultivates the practice of thrift, self-reliance, self-help and assists in fostering community spirit, poverty eradication and nation building.

The Office of the Registrar, Friendly Societies Division is responsible for supervising and monitoring the financial records of the Friendly Societies Movement and to ensure that they are in compliance with the Friendly Societies Act.

These Societies were established to improve the economic well-being of its members by:

  • Providing relief for and maintenance of members and their dependants during sickness or other infirmity
  • Ensuring money (to be paid) on: the birth of a member's child; on marriage of a member; on the death of a member; for funeral expense of dependants' relatives of the member
  • Providing insurance 
  • Providing credit and investment opportunities for its members
  • Assisting in purchasing or acquisition of interest in the ownership of freehold or leasehold lands.
