Question No. 84 to the Minister of Labour and Small Enterprise Development

Can the Minister indicate, what are the actual and sanctioned strengths of Inspectors at the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA)?

Madame President, the sanctioned strength of Inspectors at the Occupational Safety and Health Agency is forty-eight (48).

The actual strength of Inspectors at the OSH Agency as at January 9, 2020, is thirty-eight (38).

The health and safety of workers is a high priority of the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. In this regard, the Ministry of Labour and Small Enterprise Development is committed to ongoing collaboration with the OSH Authority in order to continue to strengthen the OSH Agency to fill all vacant positions and improve its functions in the implementation and enforcement of the OSH Act for the benefit of all workers.
