Media Invitation: National Stakeholder Consultation on the Employment Exchange Act (Chapter 88:09)

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago - Thursday 16 May 2019

The Ministry of Labour and Small Enterprise Development invites you to cover the National Stakeholder Consultation on the Employment Exchange Act (Chapter 88:09) on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at the Festival Ballroom, Radisson Hotel, Port of Spain. Senator the Honourable Jennifer Baptiste Primus, Minister of Labour and Small Enterprise Development will deliver the Feature Address.

The Employment Exchange Act and its regulations have not been updated since 1961 and in its current format is inadequate and unable to meet the demands of the modern, evolving labour market needs of the 21st Century. Many of the provisions in the Act require modernisation and lacks several protections for workers such as provisions penalising human/sex trafficking; provisions prohibiting discrimination; and provisions stipulating that employers must abide by the Minimum Wages Act, Maternity Protection act, child labour and other labour provisions that protect workers and promote a decent work agenda.

Media is invited to cover the Stakeholder Consultation on Friday May 17, 2019 at 9:00 a.m.
